We are so lucky in our neighborhood to have not one, but two phenomenal bakeries run by truly great people. Gio’s in the heart of Montrose, run by Azniv and Shan’t Fernezlian is just across the street from Town. On a typical Saturday morning before I do my chores I run over and grab a flakey, buttery pastry or go weak kneed over their coffee cake muffins. I also love their Illy Coffee, though it’s hard for me not to make my own Lavazza at Town.
But how can we even say Montrose bakeries without talking about Anders and Youna Karlsson and their amazing creation, Berolina. I’ll confess that Berolina is my afternoon go-to for fresh bread when I’m entertaining at home. (and yes, we still entertain at home!). Berolina has been a staple in our community since 1991 and judging from the lines out front on any given day, it’ll take a lot more than Covid 19 to discourage another 29 years.
We love these businesses and the truly great people who sow their hearts and souls into them. Make sure you’re loving them, too. We’ve got a ways to go before we’ll get out of all of this and every time you visit one of the businesses we love, you’re helping to preserve our little crescent valley.
