We know dietary restrictions are real. Whether simple preferences, religious beliefs, or allergies we take your desires seriously. Over the last year we’ve made a concerted effort to be one of the best restaurants for people who avoid gluten in their diets.
This hasn’t been an easy process and we’ve had to develop a series of recipes to make it work but we can now say that we have a wide variety of dishes that are gluten free and more importantly, that our cooking processes have been refined to avoid accidental contamination.
The biggest revelation was the fryer. Gluten isn’t bothered in the least by being in the fryer, even for a while. This meant that everything that goes in the fryer has to be gluten free.
We started with our friend chicken batter. It took a while, but today’s friend chicken is coated with buttermilk and a combination of rice and corn flour. We actually love how light it is and it has a great, flavorful crunch. Our Friday night fish fry is also gluten free, and making these dishes gluten free means everything that goes in the fryer is gluten free.. French fries? Chomp away. We even spend the extra $$ to bring in gluten free soy sauce… (We really taking this seriously!)
We’ve got a great gluten free pizza crust too. There are a lot of people who get this instead of our standard crust, and all of our kids pizzas are always gluten free (no extra charge).
We have two pastas that are gluten free. Our mushroom ravioli is gluten free and “Ang’s” No Pasta is gluten free (actually made with “zoodles.”) We’ve tried a number of tube and noodle substitutes, but honestly we don’t like either the taste of the texture of most and those that are any good don’t stay good for long. (They tend to absorb too much liquid).
So next time have a craving for a dish at town if you have a challenge with gluten, know you’re safe and know you have options. We’ll take care of you. It’s what we’re here for!
